My passion for the outdoors stretches way back (further than I’d like to admit sometimes) and so I’ve experienced a lot of the outdoors. With the abundance of water we’re blessed with on this planet, it’s no surprise I gravitated toward fishing. And, it’s no dirty secret that I enjoy both spinning and fly rods. I can write endlessly of the merits of both, but simply put, it’s about having the right tool to challenge ourselves and our finned adversaries.
For now, I’ll leave “method” alone and speak to fly rod “weight.” The research surrounding a rod’s line weight assignment is long. We’ve read it and have done our own. It’s anything but simple, and there are a myriad of rods to choose from so it’s no wonder that anglers find the choice daunting. I field the same questions show after show. What rod weight is best for bass? For snook? Reds? Do I really need more than one rod to cover salt and freshwater? All good questions. Luckily, I have friends that spend a great deal of time in both fresh and saltwater exclusively.
I took the question to Debbie Hanson of Shefishes2, to craft a solution that truly spanned the gap between freshwater and saltwater. We collaborated and prototyped for months. Thanks to her her ability as an instructor to simplify and my understanding of physics (my other passion), we created the TRUE SEVEN.
