FOR THE LOVE OF SIMPLICITY.
A FRESH LOOK AT INSHORE FISHING.
My passion for the outdoors stretches way back (further than I’d like to admit sometimes) and so I’ve experienced a lot of the outdoors. With the abundance of water we’re blessed with on this planet, it’s no surprise I gravitated toward fishing. And, it’s no dirty secret that I enjoy both spinning and fly rods. I can write endlessly of the merits of both, but simply put, it’s about having the right tool to challenge ourselves and our finned adversaries.
For now, I’ll leave “method” alone and speak to fly rod “weight.” The research surrounding a rod’s line weight assignment is long. We’ve read it and have done our own. It’s anything but simple, and there are a myriad of rods to choose from so it’s no wonder that anglers find the choice daunting. I field the same questions show after show. What rod weight is best for bass? For snook? Reds? Do I really need more than one rod to cover salt and freshwater? All good questions. Luckily, I have friends that spend a great deal of time in both fresh and saltwater exclusively.
I took the question to Debbie Hanson of Shefishes2, to craft a solution that truly spanned the gap between freshwater and saltwater. We collaborated and prototyped for months. Thanks to her her ability as an instructor to simplify and my understanding of physics (my other passion), we created the TRUE SEVEN. As Debbie puts it, “This rod offers the opportunity for success when pursuing a variety of species, from largemouth bass in a backyard pond to redfish in the backcountry…” (I’d add bonefish, snook, and specs to that list) she adds, “…fly fishing and rod selection doesn’t need to be confusing or complex.”
BEAUTY & BITE
With its aqua blue blank and color on color wraps the TRUE SEVEN is sure to please. Salt-ready hardware, titanium stripping guides with a medium-fast progressive taper gives this beauty some bite. It can cast a chunky 1/0 popper as easily as a craft fur minnow.
The Signature Series
The Signature Series, in no small way, defines what Reilly Rod Crafters’ evolution is about. It’s in our DNA to base what’s next on what was and will always be great fishing rods. Each rod is the culmination of what each designer considers the perfect combination of castability, accuracy and feel for the quarry and environment that target occupies.
The Debbie Hanson True Seven
As a women’s fishing advocate and outdoor writer, Debbie consistently encourages newcomers to try the sport — in large part by keeping gear and methods simple. This is the only rod you’ll need for most of the fishing you’ll ever do.
