With ROA, Cory has guided kayak fishing trips for almost two decades. Recently he has hung up his guiding hat to produce outdoor content and enjoy the outdoors with his family. He continues to give fly casting instruction. He has fished waters from New York City to Texas and all in between. He enjoys not just fly fishing, but game, waterfowl, upland bird hunts, and most recently knife making and leather work.
In 2008 he published the book “Kayak Fishing- The Complete Guide” which has been touted as the bible of kayak fishing. His book contains lots of great info and some excellent photography, most of which was taken by him. It sold out in less than two years and is available in a revised edition. In 2017 Cory co-wrote, filmed, and produced the short film “Back Bay” Which highlights the rise, fall, and eventual return of Back Bays once world class bass fishery. It includes insight from Lefty Kreh and Walt Cary. In 2018 it was awarded “Best Conservation Film” by The Drake Magazine.
Cory has a BS in Marine Biology from East Carolina University, and has worked for several environmental agencies. His resume includes time with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and most recently the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality where he coordinates all the water monitoring programs in their Tidewater regional office.
